Surakarta or better known as Solo is lying across in fertile plain terrain along the longest river in Java, Bengawan or Sungai Solo. Flanked by mountain volcanoes Merapi and Merbabu in the north, and mount Lawu in the southeast border, Solo is famous with its Javanese culture and tradition. Surakarta, is the cradle of Javanese culture, with 2 royal houses in one single city: the Kraton of Solo and the Mangkunegaran . Descendants of these two royal houses are still considered leaders of Javanese culture and traditions. Majestic ceremonies and royal festivals are still held with great affectation nowadays. Surakarta or Solo (550000 inhabitants) draws its name from the longest river of Java, which passes in this city. It was the capital Mataram Kingdom from 1745 to 1755. Day 2: (B/L/D) am | SUNRISE BOROBUDUR TOUR – KETEP PASS MERAPI | 5.00 am | Start at 05:00 am to admire the magical sunrise at the great Buddhist temple Borobudur and discover its mystery and history. A short stop at Pawon and Mendut temples, then continue to Ketep Pass Mount Merapi to enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery, then see audio visual Merapi eruption at Volcano Theatre. Day 3: (B/L/D) am | CITY TOUR JOGJA - SUNSET PARANGTRITIS BEACH | am | After breakfast, visit “Kraton” - the magnificent palace of Sultan. Continue to Taman Sari water castle, Bird Market. After which, visit a traditional batik home industry. Next visit Kotagede to see hundred-year old tradition which is still being practiced by silver craftsmen. Lunch in local restaurant.
