Vietnam Insight Tour (Hanoi, Halong Hue, Hoi An, Saigon) Vietnam Tour Packages Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, Halong Bay is one of Vietnam’s most spectacular natural wonders. The tiny limestone islands, with beaches and grottoes created by the wind and the waves, provide an excellent backdrop for relaxation and swimming. A 3.5-hour drive from Hanoi with a quick rest stop en route at a handicraft center (this place is quite touristy but the best stop available); you will reach Halong City by noon. Like many cities in Vietnam, Saigon did not escape the wrath of war. Since the beginning, Saigon has had quite a traumatic history. There are many theories to the birth of Saigon and the origin of its name. In the 15th century, this area was surrounded by swamps, marshes and thick forests. However, by the early 17th century, a small township was formed. According to one theory, Saigon or Sai Con was originally from a Khmer word Prei Kor (Kapok Tree Forest). The name Saigon was used officially in 1698, when Lord Nguyen Phuc Chu sent Mr. Nguyen Huu Canh to this region to form a government for this southern outpost. Because of its strategic location for trade, commerce and military importance, Saigon continued to grow and became a bonafide city. By 1772, Mr. Nguyen Cuu Dam began to fill many of the canals to form streets.
Cu Chi Tunnel is located 70 km from Ho Chi Minh City in the Northwest. It is a miniature battle versatile of Cu Chi’s military and people during the 30-year struggle to fight the invading enemy. Special architecture lying deeply underground with many stratums, nooks and crannies are also found in this tunnel. Come on down to experience this glorious yet memorable subject!
