Sukau Jungle Experience, Gomantang Caves, Proboscis Monkeys, Kinabatangan River Cruise Tour (Sandakan) The Kinabatangan River being Sabah’s longest river is one of the most exciting and easily accessible venue to explore the rich biodiversity of Sabah. From Kampung Abai (near the river mouth of Kinabatangan River) to the villages of Sukau (the lower part of Kinabatangan) offers an incredible opportunity to enjoy a wide range of wildlife including Borneo’s Unique Proboscis Monkeys, the wild Orang Utan, Bornean Pygmy Elephants, Crocodiles, Otters, Bears, Wild Cats and countless of rare birds such as Hornbills and Oriental Darter. Come on down and experience the exciting adventurous moments that awaits you!
Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge (Sukau) is one of the lodge that has been set up in 1994. The new wing with 33 rooms (15 Twin Room/6 Triple Rooms/8 Double Bed Rooms/4 Family Rooms) was completed on NOV 2007 with Jetty Tower, New Bird Tower, New Frog Platform and a open sun deck facing to the Kinabatangan River. Our rooms are upgraded with 42 inch width beds and 8 inches mattresses. (All rooms with equipped with Attached Bathroom/Hot Shower/Ceiling Fan/ Windows fully covered with Mosquito Net/Smoke Detector/Emergency Evacuation Plan)

Meet at Hotel Lobby (0800-0810hrs) or Sandakan Airport via MH2042 (ETA 0740hrs) or AK6092 (ETA 0750hrs) or Sepilok area (0900-0910hrs). Drive for approximately 30 minutes to Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Center. Proceed to the free roaming area feeding platform. 1000 hrs Feeding of Orang Utans. At this center, observe man’s closest relative “the Orang Utan” being rehabilitated to become wild in their natural habitat and experience a walk in the Tropical Lowland Dipterocarp Forest of Borneo.
1100 hrs depart Sepilok and transfer to jetty in Sandakan. (Boat departs for Sukau/Abai at 1145) 1145 hrs take an hour boat cruise up to the Lower Kinabatangan River Sanctuary where you will take your lunch at Abai Jungle Restaurant. This is a wonderful journey of discovery which starts from the waters of Sulu Sea of Sandakan Town through a magnificent scenery of the Mangrove Forest. After lunch, cruise UP river to Sukau village in search of primates especially the Endemic Proboscis Monkeys, birds and other wildlife. Arrive Sukau, check in at Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge. Late afternoon, an option to take another river cruise with electric motor to Menanggul River, a small tributary of the Kinabatangan. Return lodge for dinner and overnight at Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge. (Lunch / Dinner) |

Wake up by the calls of gibbons and hornbills. Early AM, take a river trip to the Ox Bow Lake to observe wildlife and experience the early morning river ambience of the longest river of Sabah. Return lodge for breakfast then free at own leisure. After lunch, proceed overland to Gomantong Birdnest Caves. Upon arrival, 15 minutes walk on the plank walk to the cave. Explore the largest bird's nest cave in Sabah, home to millions of Bats and swiflets. The nest of the swiflets are collected for the famous Chinese edible bird.Return back to the lodge for late afternoon river cruise with electric motor to search for more wildlife. Dinner and overnight at Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge. ( Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner ) |

After breakfast, river cruise down by boat back to Sandakan. Another chance for wildlife sightings with this approximately 2.5 hours journey.
Upon arrival at jetty, drive up hill to the Puh Jih Syh Chinese Buddhist Temple, which offers a panoramic view of the Sandakan Bay. After lunch, transfer to the Airport MH 2047 (ETD1400hrs) or AK 6097 (ETD1420hrs) or Hotel. (Breakfast / Lunch) |
