Kuching City, Semenggoh Orang Utan, Bako Park & Cultural Village Tour (Malaysia Tour Packages) Kuching, the capital of Sarawak, is a riverside town in the west of the state, located on the banks of the Sarawak River. It is approximately 32 km inland from the South China Sea. The town has landscaped parks and gardens, some elegant colonial buildings, colourful markets and a bustling waterfront.
Sarawak Cultural Village - This award-winning living museum showcases Sarawak’s unique and diverse cultures in an accessible, visitor-friendly setting just 35 minutes drive from Kuching.The seven authentic traditional buildings are set amidst a scenic 17 acre site and are populated by members of Sarawak’s many ethnic groups, going about everyday activities. These include wood and bamboo carving, beadwork, weaving, sago-making, sugar-cane crushing, pepper-growing and the preparation of bird’s nests.Visitors can learn how to throw a Malay spinning top, shoot a Penan blowpipe or pick out a tune on an Orang Ulu sape. The tour concludes with a 45 minutes colourful multi-ethnic cultural performance in the village’s air-conditioned mini-theatre. Shows are fixed daily @ 1130 – 1215hrs & 1600 – 1645hrs.
Semenggoh Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre - located about 32 km south of Kuching, the sanctuary is a rehabilitation centre for Orang Utans which have been injured or captured. The centre also rehabilitates other wildlife including monkeys, honey bears and hornbills which have been orphaned or kept illegally.
Bako National Park - Sarawak's oldest national park was established in 1957 on a 2,728 hectare site, about 37 km from Kuching. It is known for its extraordinary variety and natural scenery, habitats, plant and wild life.A common plant found in abundance is the Dischidea Rafflesia, a slender climber bearing special expanded hollow leaves. Ants reside in these hollow leaves and leave their excreta as nutrients for the plant. Others plants include sundew, bladderwort and the notoriously carnivorous pitcher plant. The unique Proboscis monkey (orang Belanda) can be found in the Borneo riverine forest. Easily distinguished by its enormous cucumber-like nose, it is not uncommon to find the male species lording over a harem of ten mates! The silver langur with the punk-like hairdo is a very shy primate, feeding only on leaves. Their young are easily distinguished by their bright orange colour. Other inhabitants in the park include long-tailed macaques, bearded pigs, leopard cats and giant lizards such as the tree monitors and skinks.
